Elmbridge Drama Festival Results

Three awards for Teeth

Congratulations to Bill Newman and his cast and crew on an excellent performance at the Elmbridge Drama Festival on Thursday, 4th March. The adjudicator, Robert Meadows, praised the production and performances.

At the final, recall, evening on Saturday, 6th March, the adjudicator summed up the festival as having been of an exceptionally high standard. There were only a few marks separating the top five productions.

RDG won three awards at the awards ceremony - the Stage Award, (given by the festival stage crew for the efficiency of the setting/striking of the production); the Award for Outstanding Festival Spirit (given by the festival committee for general efficiency and professionalism of all those involved in staging the play) and the Technical Award (given by the Festival Technical Crew for the competency of the technical aspects of the production).

In addition, Bill Newman was nominated in the category of Best Director (in particular for successfully creating a stage production from what is essentially a television script). Paul Foster was also nominated for Best Actor.

Although at this festival there is no actual award for third place, the adjudicator confirmed in the bar afterwards that the marks did indeed put RDG in third place overall.

The top two productions go through to the next round of the All-England Theatre Festival at Walton Playhouse on 7th March. These are Woking College Theatre Company (directed by Judy and Colin's daughter, Claire Nevers who also won Best Director) with The Underground Lovers and Cobham Players' production of Lifeboat. They will compete against two winning plays from other festivals to go through to the Semi Final of the competition on 15th May in East Grinstead.
